Andrew Szalas is a Nurse Practitioner who is board certified in family medicine. Currently working with Zen medicine using a hybrid model of care whereby providers see patients in their home, in a clinic site and telemedicine visits to make care more accessible for our geriatric population. As a Nurse Practitioner he brings to the practice a more holistic approach to care. Andrewhas years of experience in pediatrics, adult medicine and geriatrics with emphasis on diabetic patient care.
Andrew used his research background to study the effects of a modified lifestyle and diet on the improvement of type two diabetes. Patients following the new guidelines had improvements in blood sugar, blood pressure, weight. Approximately 30% of the patientsachieved a full remission of their type two diabetes following guidelines he wrote based on three years of research looking into diverse models of care for the diabetic patient.
Currently he is working on ways to improve the outcomes of the geriatric population with the addition of small incremental lifestyle changes. These changes can help ameliorate western diseases and their outcomes.
Andrew graduated from Azusa Pacific university with a Bachelor’s of science in nursing as well as a masters of science in nursing with a concentration in Family medicine. Andrew also holds an associate of science degree in hyperbaric medicine and nursing. Andrew has 32 years of experience in the medical field starting out in off shore oil as a commercial diver medic, then on to work as and emergency medical technician, and as a Registered Nurse before becoming a Nurse Practitioner in 2009.
